FAQs

What do you need for clay modelling?

All you need for clay sculpting is some clay, a cutting tool and some paint!

  • Sculpting clay: We stock polymer clay and air dry clay, so you can choose the best option for you.
  • Cutting tool: You will also need a clay cutting tool, for easy cuts and details.
  • Non-stick surface: We recommend working on a nonstick surface, such as a newspaper or an old board.
  • Paint/varnish: If you want to decorate and protect your project, we stock a wide range of paints, paint brushes and varnishes.

Is modelling clay the same as polymer clay?

  • Modelling clay, also known as air dry clay, is flexible and easy to shape into different models. This is a favourite amongst children as it does not require much strength to mould. This clay dries within 24-48 hours and can be used to create a variety of projects.
  • Polymer clay is soft in texture and is a popular choice due to its easy use. Polymer clay can be exposed to the air and won't dry as it needs to be baked to set properly.

Is air dry clay good for sculpting?

Air dry clay is a great medium for sculpting as it is flexible and smooth, meaning minimal strength is required to mould it into your desired shape. The clay will not harden while you’re working with it as it takes 24-48 hours to set at room temperature.
